Also known as the whale-headed stork or whalebill, the shoebill stork is one of the most fascinating animals you've seen doing the rounds on social media.
It is a large bird that can grow up to four feet tall. It has a long neck and legs, and its bill is long and curved. The shoebill stork is found in Africa, and it feeds on fish, amphibians, and reptiles.
Adults are grey and white, with a black band on the leading edge of their wings. Juveniles are browner and lack the wing band. The shoebill can grow to over 4 feet tall, with a wingspan of up to 9 feet. It is the only member of the genus Balaeniceps.
