Description
The Chinese giant salamander is the largest salamander in the world, growing up to 1.8 meters in length. It is found in rivers and lakes in central and southern China. Sadly it is classified as critically endangered due to habitat loss and over-exploitation for food and traditional medicine.
They're dark brown or black in color with a wrinkled, warty skin. It has a long, broad body with a wide, flat head. The salamander’s eyes are small and beady, and it has a very long tail.
This species of salamander is fully aquatic and spends its entire life in water. It is a voracious eater, preying on fish, crustaceans, and even small mammals. They will also eat just about anything else they can fit in their mouths!
